Scott comes from a high-tech and entrepreneurial background and has over a decade of
experience in the banking industry. He is an author, and the Founder, President and
CEO of Open Mortgage. Prior to launching Open Mortgage, Scott started multiple companies,
including C.A.R.E. Solutions, Brava Services and Credit Minders. Scott has served on the
Board of Directors for Open Lending and has invested and been a board member for Integratus
and Heliovolt. Scott maintains a membership in Vistage, an executive forum that focuses on
cutting-edge development and discussions for higher velocity company performance.
Scott received his undergraduate degree from Arizona State in software engineering. He
is married with two children and resides in Austin, Texas.
Richard, “Woody”, joined Open Mortgage in 2009, before which he spent over 25 years in
financial positions for publicly traded companies, international firms and CPA firms.
His practice has focused on the mortgage banking industry since 2004 and he was nominated
for Austin Business Journal’s “CFO of the Year” in 2008.
Woody received a Master’s degree in Accounting and Taxation from the University of
Houston – Clear Lake. He graduated from UT Austin in 1983 and was licensed as a CPA in 1987.
He almost always answers his cell phone. If he does not answer his cell phone, he is most likely
on a cruise somewhere in the Caribbean.
Joe was previously the Founder and COO of Unity Mortgage which became the major component of Financial
Freedom, a market leader for seven years. In addition, he was the Founder and CEO of Generation Mortgage Company.
Before joining Open Mortgage, Joe managed a reverse mortgage call center for First National Bank, where he
recruited and trained loan officers to be successful phone sales personnel. Joe holds a permanent board
position on the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association (N.R.M.L.A.). He is a graduate of Georgia
Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Industrial Management and maintains his residency in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Greg has over 20 years of executive and senior management positions in operations, logistics, customer
service, and sales. Throughout his career, Greg has been involved in building, managing, and improving
operational and sales processes. Prior to joining Open Mortgage, he was co-owner, President, and CEO of
Mortex Lending, Ltd., CIO & EVP of Operations at MBI Mortgage Inc. and COO at Northland Funding Group Ltd.
In addition to the mortgage industry, Greg has held senior management positions with both start-ups and
large organizations in the telecom and technology industries including: Point One Telecommunications,
IPC Technologies and Dell. While at Dell, he established infrastructure and processes for their software
and peripherals division, DellWare. Greg is proud to have served in the United States Air Force as Managing
Crew Chief for the 555th Aircraft Maintenance Unit of the Tactical Air Command.
Stephen has over 20 years experience in software development and innovation in industries that include
telecommunications, defense, big data, and search engines. This gives him a unique perspective on applying
technology to the mortgage banking industry. Stephen graduated from UCLA in 1993 with a Bachelors in
Computer Science, then did postgraduate work at Carnegie Mellon University in telecommunications. Outside of
work, Stephen spends time with the Boy Scouts of America, teaching leadership and camping skills to our next
generation of leaders.
Laura has over thirteen years experience in the mortgage business which includes processing,
originating and operations management. Her background as a teacher of almost 20 years, brings
attention to detail and training. Because she has owned and operated her own real estate office,
she can empathize with the issues Realtors and loan officers face during a transaction. Laura’s
approach to compliance issues has always been that it is her job to keep loan originators and
Open Mortgage in business doing loans. She researches the compliance issues that arise and
consults with our compliance attorney group for insight before making decisions. Laura is a
graduate of Texas A&M University/Kingsville and maintains her residence in Lakeway, Texas, which
is just west of Austin. She and her husband, John, are proud to be grandparents of five “perfect”
Sharon is a 20-year veteran of the mortgage industry. Prior to that, Sharon was East
Coast Divisional Manager for Generation Mortgage and VP of Northwest Sales for Security
One Lending. Sharon loves to give back to her community. In her spare time, Sharon
volunteers with the National Council on Aging, which gives older citizens a voice and
works to reduce their likelihood of living in poverty near the end of their lives.
Nick has over fifteen years of mortgage experience. He started as a loan officer
and worked his way up Secondary Marketing through product development, lock desk
and hedging. Nick graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a
Bachelor of Business Administration. He lives near Fort Worth, Texas with his wife
and two children.
Tracy joined the Open Mortgage team in January 2016. She has over 15 years of
diverse high-level HR experience, including work in the fashion industry in NYC
as well as with software start-ups and in telecommunications. She enjoys the
challenges of keeping up with the ever-changing federal and state HR rules while
helping to maintain an enthusiastic and creative workforce at Open Mortgage.
Tracy holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Florida State University.
She is a native Texan and loves living in Austin with her husband and two children.
In her free time, Tracy enjoys paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake, sweating it out at
the gym at a kickboxing session or attending one of Austin’s live music events.
